Heroes With a Thousand Faces

Nice work by NBC on their new show. What do you do when you’re getting smoked by the other networks? Dust off your Joseph Campbell book and do what George Lucas and J.K. Rowling did. It’s not easy to write a successful new hero story, especially for TV. Interesting that this show is an incarnation of a good story formula, and NBC’s other new hit, “Studio 60”, shows just how hard it can be to bring a good story to life.

Amidst all the hoopla with Bono’s recent Chicago visit, I never would have guessed that he’d say something wise about branding:

“…Red companies will make some profit. Not as much as they would usually. But, we want them to prosper because it’s a long term fight with this illness. We don’t want to just put out some T-shirts and jeans and Motorola phones and Apple iPods for a year, get people on the drugs and then not continue with their treatment. Great brands always have an emotional component. We think we bring that with our brand to theirs.”

There is a new beta entitled SlideShare that allows users to post PowerPoint presentations on-line for access and use. Such services are new, and have many limitations, but it sounds like several are powering up.
